Ask about items

O-ring 40 × 3, up to 150 °C, in contact with biodiesel. What do we have?

Searching 18,000 items and 4,200 data sheets …

Answer

Two items fit. FKM withstands biodiesel and 150 °C permanently; NBR swells in biodiesel and is out. FFKM would work too, but is oversized for this case.

Many items differ only in material. Whether one fits is in a data sheet, or only a few application engineers know.

What the software does

Sales types the question into a question field in the business software. The software searches item data, data sheets and the materials table, shows matching items with stock levels and names the source for every statement.

Typical software

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or other software for orders, stock and invoices
  • Data sheets, for example in SharePoint
  • Materials table in Excel

What it is made of
  • Question field in your business software

In Business Central, the question field is an add-on on the item page, which your administrator switches on. Other programs get it wherever they allow add-ons. Otherwise it opens in a narrow window next to them.

  • Everything searchable in one place

Every night the software gathers item data, data sheets and the materials table in one place and searches them there. It only reads the folders you give it access to.

  • Answers with sources

For every statement, the software names the data sheet and page. It passes borderline cases to application engineering.

Common questions
  • Does sales have to learn a new program?

Sales asks in its usual business software. In Business Central, the question field is an add-on on the item page. If a program does not allow add-ons, the question field opens in a narrow window next to it.

  • Where do the answers come from?

From your item data, data sheets and materials table. The answer lists its sources, such as “Data sheet FKM 75, p. 2”.

  • Which data does the software read?

Only the folders you give it access to. It fetches the latest version from there every night.
